background
(
alias: In response to traffic safety concerns noted by a resident in your area, the City of Maple Ridge initiated a traffic safety initiative along McClure Drive as per the cities, Traffic Calming Policy.
The Traffic Calming Policy includes 4 key phases. The first Initiation Phase involved an initial questionnaire that was sent to homeowners in November 2021, responses from McClure Drive residents met support thresholds to proceed to Phase 2. The 2nd Assessment Phase comprised of speed and volume traffic data collection that occurred in November of 2021. Minimum thresholds for speed and volumes met required thresholds to proceed to Phase 3.
The 3rd Prioritization Phase involved a review and prioritization of other traffic calming initiatives underway for other areas of the City to ensure appropriate staff and financial resources can be allocated for the next phase. This review was completed in January, the McClure Drive Traffic Calming Initiative is now proceeding to the 4th phase of development.
Phase 4 is the final phase of this initiative titled Traffic Calming Plan Development and Approval. In this phase, homeowners that have a direct frontage on McClure Drive will be asked to complete a survey (attached here) to understand any road safety related concerns. This survey information will then be used to develop a draft traffic calming plan for further review and ultimately a request for support. This plan could include elements of education, enforcement and engineering. As per the City's Traffic Calming Policy and national best practices outlined by the Transportation Association of Canada, a measure of support will then be requested (in the future/ not now) from McClure Drive homeowners, if 66% of homeowners support the draft calming plan it will be considered supported and proposed for construction in future years as part of a city planned capital project.
As the initial part of this 4th phase, we would like to learn more about homeowners experiences on McClure Drive to help formulate a draft traffic calming plan for this roadway. Please complete the questions below., type: esriFieldTypeString, length: 255, editable: true, nullable: true
